Southend’s Unsung Heroes Honoured at the 2025 Citizens of Southend Awards
A Night to Remember On Tuesday 14th October, Southend residents gathered for a spectacular evening as the 2025 Citizens of Southend Awards celebrated the outstanding contributions of individuals making a real difference across the borough. The ceremony was filled with warmth, gratitude, and inspiration, recognising local heroes whose dedication strengthens the community. A Proud History of Recognising Local Heroes Back in 2007, Councillor Ian Robertson approached Philip Miller MBE with a proposal to create an awards scheme celebrating our town’s unsung heroes. Philip, together with Sir Teddy Taylor and other key community leaders, formed a committee to bring the vision to life — establishing The Citizens of Southend Awards. Since then, the awards have continued to shine a light on individuals whose courage, kindness, and commitment inspire others throughout the Southend community.
